Choosing The Right Abaya For You

Gone are the days when abayas were just a plain black, traditional design. Now, with the developments of abayas becoming a fashion statement whilst also keeping the modesty, you can find all sort of styles with different colours, embellishments and designs.

Whether you’re choosing an abaya for everyday wear or a special occasion, choosing the right one will compliment your look and figure. Make a simple misjudgement and you can find yourself looking dull and feeling uncomfortable.

Choosing The Right Abaya For You

  • Length

The first thing to consider when choosing an abaya is your height. Whether you’re tall or short, abaya’s should reach the full length of your body and shouldn’t be any shorter than a few centimetres below your ankle. When trying on an abaya, test to see what it will look like with and without heels (tiptoe if you can’t test with heels).

  • Fit

You definitely want to look for an abaya that compliments your body and enhances your features. That’s not to say that your abaya should have a tight body fit, but should fit well enough so that you can comfortably wear your own clothes underneath. If you have more of a pear-shaped figure, choose an abaya that is wide at the bottom and tighter on the sleeves. For a slimmer or skinny figure, opt for an abaya that has more layers to accentuate your figure.

  • Sleeve length

No one likes sleeves that are too short or too long, especially when they weren’t designed to fit that way. When choosing the right abaya, make sure the sleeves are at wrist length unless the design states otherwise.

  • Fabric

When it comes to choosing an abaya, make sure it matches the season. You wouldn’t want to wear a silk abaya in the winter or a wool abaya in the summer. Make sure to choose abayas with light fabric for the summer and leave the heavy and layered abayas for the winter. Most importantly, make sure you feel comfortable!

If you’re purchasing your abaya online, check the size guides carefully and read the product descriptions for the fabric types.

For professional abaya cleaning, you can schedule a free collection with laundryheap and have your abayas returned to you in less than 24 hours.

The Best Clothes To Wear During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a beautiful phase as you’re bringing life into this world. Your body goes through drastic changes, one of which is physical transformation. It then becomes difficult to find nice comfortable clothes that flatter you.

Dressing up can be fun and it will make you feel good too! It’s important to choose the right clothes and it doesn’t necessarily have to be maternity wear. Here are the best clothes to wear during pregnancy:

Dresses

Maxi dresses, shift dresses, wrap dresses, all types of flowy (and stretchy bodycon) dresses are best to wear for pregnancy. The best part is, you don’t need to buy them in the maternity section! Wearing dresses are not only an all-year-round fashion item, but it gives you the comfort of being able to move around freely and accommodates to your growing belly. Even great for the frequent toilet breaks!

Stretchy pants

Pants are a little difficult to choose when you’re pregnant. That’s why maternity pants exist.  Foldover waist yoga pants and Leggings are non-maternity labelled clothes that you can wear during your pregnancy. These super comfy pants are breathable and stretchy so it can mold to your body shape. You can easily fold or slouch the waistband to sit underneath your belly as it grows.

Drawstring Bottoms

You can imagine already how drawstring pants can accommodate to your round belly. The ease of wearing drawstring bottoms means you can loosen or tighten up your pants around your waist as you wish, without having to worry about it being too constricting or tight.

Tunic Tops

There are different styles of tunic tops, ranging from jersey to jumper to cable knit styles. These tops are great to wear during pregnancy as they sit well over your belly and most tunic tops have enough space for your growing belly too. So you don’t need to worry about the need to buy clothes to adjust to your body change. Just be sure to pick soft and comfortable fabrics.

ALL T-shirts

T-shirts of any kind, are a basic addition to your maternity wardrobe. You don’t necessarily have to purchase from the maternity section. You can choose from over sized styled tees or general stretchy t-shirts that are a size or 2 bigger. The choice is up to your comfort.

Long Stretchy Tank Tops

Tank tops accentuate your figure and can stretch easily over your belly. Look for ones that have microfiber blends (super soft) and can accommodate your chest area.  These are great for wearing it underneath other clothing or just a regular top.

Extra tips:

When looking for the best clothes, ask yourself:

  • Does it stretch? Purchase clothes that allow you to move and give you more flexibility as you continue to grow through each trimester.
  • If I bend over, does it go sheer? The last thing you want is to have sheer clothes! Especially when you’re bending down to pick something up or stretching. Test clothes for sheerness before you wear/ buy them.
  • Can I use it post pregnancy? Think about items of clothing that has a built in breastfeeding features or can still be of use after your pregnancy.

Also, keep in mind to choose natural fibres such as cotton, linen, wool, spandex etc rather than polyester and pick light weight, loose fitted clothing that can be easily washed.

Most importantly, remember to wash your clothes before wearing them to avoid any uncomfortable skin irritation or simply book a laundry service to make your life that much easier.

GET READY WITH US: Interview Attire

Congratulations! You’ve passed the phone interview and landed a face-to-face interview. Now you just have do a bit of research and gather some notes, BUT WAIT… what are you going to wear?!

How you physically present yourself gives the very first impression before a word comes out of your mouth.

Business smart or smart casual? It depends entirely on what type of business it is your going to an interview for. Of course, all employers will have different opinions. In most occasions, the dress code will either be business smart or smart casual.

It’s not always the case that you have to wear a suit, so here is an infographic on how you should dress for a smart or casual interview and some overall DO’s and DON’Ts on dressing for an interview.

Interview Infographic

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

Men:

When wearing a suit, it must fit you well so that you can feel comfortable and look presentable. It must be clean and neat, so make sure to clean it properly beforehand and steam it, NOT IRON. If this sounds too much of an effort, book a collection with us so we can take care of it for you within 24 hours.

The same for smart casual, nothing too baggy. Everything must be well fitted and look tidy.

Women:

Your clothes must fit you well also, but don’t wear anything TOO revealing or tight as it totally goes against looking professional. Be conservative!

For Business smart, the only touch of colour should come from your blouse, jewellery pieces and maybe shoes, but nothing too bright or flashy. Make sure your suit and blouse are also neat, or hand it over to a dry cleaner for extra cleanliness measure.

For a smart casual hack, it’s okay to pair a vest with a cardigan/ blazer as long as it’s not a deep V/ scoop and on some occasions, it’s okay to wear opened toed mini heels. Just always have in mind to dress semi-formal.

If you have any interview attire tips/ suggestions to add, we’d love to hear them! So go ahead and leave us a comment 🙂

GET THE LOOK: Stylish Laundry Room On A Budget

How great would it be if your laundry room was welcoming you? Like wouldn’t you have the motivation to do laundry then? Because I know I would if my laundry room looked stylish and presentable.

If you’re looking to spice up your laundry room but don’t want to splash out too much ££ money, then look no further with our stylish laundry room guide- budget edition.

First things first, let’s check that you have these laundry room essentials:

Foldable drying rack: Great for natural air drying and most importantly, for those delicate garments that can’t be put into the dryer. Foldable drying racks can be used outside or indoors and folded away when not in use. It’s pretty much portable and easily accessible too.

Mesh bags: Just a little bag to put your delicate clothes in before you throw them into the washing machine- this is so that it doesn’t catch on to other clothing (bras) and the fabric doesn’t get ruined.

Divided Hamper: Great for sorting laundry on-the-go and definitely time saving too! If you haven’t already, get yourself a divided hamper to separate your whites, darks, and colours. The best thing about this is your laundry is already sorted way before putting it into the washing machine. Quite useful, eh?

An Ironing board: Yeah. I think most of us, if not everyone, has an ironing board.

Decor

Walls: In my opinion, simple designs make for a chic style. So,  if you’re planning to re-do your walls, I’d say paint it a blank canvas- a light pastel colour or just white!- so you can put up some framed pictures or paintings to give it that edgy look.

For those of you that want a design on your walls, I’d recommend something subtle and not so over powering that the walls are the only thing that’s noticed. Try a faint coloured, consistent pattern and avoid contrasting colours. Now you can either buy wallpaper or create a stencil to paint over if you have a particular preference.

Built in storage: Laundry room storage is an absolute MUST. I mean you have many supplies that you use for your laundry routine such as laundry detergent, fabric conditioner etc.

Here are a few ways you can go about creating great storage space in your laundry room, just pick the one(s) which most suits your budget:

  • Baskets: Like the cheapest of the storage options is to have baskets. The perfect type of baskets for a chic look for your laundry room are woven ones.
  • Floating Shelves: Floating shelves are good for storing items that you don’t mind putting on display. So in terms of using it in your laundry room, you can use them to display your towels, put mini baskets on them and display items of interests (pictures or candles).
  • Rail rack: Great for hanging those garments that need to be kept hung straight after coming out of the washing machine and good for avoiding creases and wrinkles (less ironing)!
  • Cabinets: Cabinets are a great way to hide your stash of laundry supplies. Not only are they great for health and safety if you have little ones, but they will keep your laundry room looking tidy and organised. Try looking for used, in-good-condition cabinets if you can’t splash out for a new one.

Rug: You’re probably thinking, why would you put a rug in your laundry room? I’ll tell you why. Adding a rug to your laundry room will not only give it a unique touch, but it will give it that warm welcoming feel and cosiness so you can feel comfy doing the laundry.

Pretty little things: One you’ve got an idea of how your laundry room is going to look like, start to think about displaying items of that which will make you happy such as: a motivational quote, home plants, Potpourri, a laundry sign, a jar of dirt etc.

How to look presentable at all times

Trying to find the fine line between prioritising life goals and keeping up to date with new trends and styles seems like a constant battle. To top it all, looking your best becomes a burden as there’s less time to plan your daily schedule.

Here are a few tips on how to look presentable at all times.

  1. FIND A STYLE THAT COMPLIMENTS YOUR BODY: This might seem irrelevant but believe you me when I say that knowing your body type and marking your style can be the first and best step to looking fabulously chic and classy. By doing so you know what you want to invest in. Hence you don’t have to spend a fortune on clothes that end up sitting in your wardrobe gathering dust just because you initially thought it was on the sale rack so it’s a good bargain.IMG_2002
  2. IRON: Wait what? Yes I know, the word itself seems like a party pooper but trust me when I say it is totally worth it. It is necessary to iron your clothes to prevent creases, and ironing contributes immensely to your physical appearance because it makes you look presentable and more put together.78654130

If you’re someone who is instantaneously put off by ironing, then one good thing to keep in mind while shopping is to go for wrinkle-free clothing to save you the headache of ironing.

Fabrics such as wool, lyocell polyester, and cashmere, can mostly resist wrinkles by far than fabrics like rayon, cotton, and silk. Well-sorted clothing can also slash seconds off the time you spend on outfit prep.

  3. AIR DRY YOUR CLOTHES BEFORE STORING: After you take off your clothes like jackets/coats, shoes, and suits, air dry for couple of minutes before you put them away. This will prevent damp smells, fabric pilling and will help avoid creasing.

  4. INVEST IN A GOOD WARDROBE / STORAGE: Putting your clothes away requires appropriate storage not only to help you keep things perfectly organised, but also to help prevent your clothes from getting creased or ruined.

As most of us know, we use the “CHAIR” as the most reliable storage option, just after finishing the laundry. Rather than sorting out the freshly laundered clothes, we just pile them on there to the point where the chair gives up on us.

To avoid that, just put things back in their allocated place so you don’t have worry about ironing when you want to use a specific outfit, especially on an urgent errand.

  5. USE LAUNDRYHEAP: The easiest tip of the lot is to use Laundryheap for chores like laundry, ironing and sorting. Then all you have to focus on is your style.
