The Benefits of Line-Drying Your Clothes

While many prefer the quicker option of tumble drying, the clothesline has served as an old-fashioned way to dry your clothes for many years. For good reason too! If your tumble dryer isn’t working, then you should consider the benefits of line-drying your clothes.

benefits of line-drying your clothes

1. Saves Energy and Money

While the tumble dryer may be faster in drying your clothes, it does consume tons of energy. When you add dryer sheets inside, chemicals are released. Not just that but you will also be spending money on bills and repair work.

With line-drying, you are saving energy because you’re not using electricity and it’s less expensive to purchase a clothesline.

2. Clothes Smell Fresher

One of the benefits of line-drying your clothes is that they end up smelling fresher because the fresh air and sunlight do their job of reducing any odours.

3. Clothes’ Quality Will Last Longer

The tumble dryer is good for certain clothes but with other clothes, the heat can overwhelm them and shrink them. On the other hand, line-drying is gentler on your clothes and removes the risk of your clothes shrinking or forming wrinkles.

4. It’s a Form of Exercise

Laundry as a chore does seem never-ending but it can be a productive one that helps you stay active. This is especially true with line-drying because you are spending 15 minutes going back and forth picking up clothes and hanging them up.

5. Brightens The White Clothes

Thanks to the sun’s natural bleaching property, it does a great job of maintaining your garment’s top condition. Your white clothes, sheets and towels will get even brighter when they’re line-dried and exposed to the sunshine.

In addition, the sunshine also eliminates any bacteria that are remaining.

6. Less Heat In Your House

In the summer, the less thing we need in our homes is heat but if you use your tumble dryer, you will build up more heat in your house. Line drying your clothes will use less heat and also do a better job drying your clothes thanks to the sun.

Next time your clothes need drying, we hope you consider the benefits of line-dying your clothes!

Air Dry Vs. Tumble Dry Infographic

There have been questions as to whether natural air drying or tumble drying is the best option to dry clothes.

It all really comes down to what the care label says on your clothes AND personal preferences. Like, personally I don’t own a tumble dryer and I don’t feel like there is a need to invest in one really.

But hey! Everyone has different opinions, so let’s look at an unbiased infographic comparison of the two drying solutions.

There’s a little bit of good and bad stuff about both drying solutions. It’s really all about what’s convenient and most importantly what’s best suited for your clothes. If you have delicate clothes made from natural fibres, these should NOT be tumble dried.
